Getting HiredTips from the insideLaw school students may apply to the JAG Corps Student Program after their first year. Applications are screed by location regional boards; each board is limited to a 50 percent maximum acceptance rate. Upon acceptance, JAG recruits do six weeks in Officer Indoctrination School, then nine weeks at Naval Justice School, both in Newport, R.I. A two-week indoctrination period on a naval vessel follows, then a four-year commitment. A very small number (approximately five per year) of experienced attorneys are appointed Navy JAG officers. Should I go to Law School?My time working at a law firm really hasn't convinced me that most of what lawyers do, especially at the more junior levels, really requires much intellectual creativity at all.
